self-portrait no. 2
acrylic and hand embroidery on antique hand woven linen
6" x 6" x 3 1/2"
2012

Self-portrait no. 2 is part of a series I completed as a resident artist at through the Brush Creek Foundation of the Arts. The piece is embroidered with soy silk, bamboo, and cotton floss on antique homespun linen that is more than 100 years old. The porcelain doll arm is from Germany and was dug from the earth from the grounds of an old doll factory that operated between 1850-1910. The figure holds a tintype photograph and two more hang on the wall behind her. All three are original tintypes dating back to the mid 1800s. It is framed in a reclaimed barn wood frame.. It is backed in hand-dyed and embroidered linen and rayon/wool blend felt. The piece measures 6 inches x 6 inches by 3 1/2 inches. It can be hung on the wall or can sit on a table or shelf.
